Strategy Implementation International Small Business

Question: As director of human resources, what would be two concerns associated with each of the structures? Answer: The two major concerns related to the organizational structure could be size of the business and the stages of development of the organization. It has to be understood that British Petroleum is not a big company but it is a giant. This oil and natural gas company operates in 6 continents and its products are available in more than 100 countries. Therefore, working with a rigid organizational structure and culture happens to be challenging for the director of the human resource. As commented by Messersmith and Wales, (2013), a big organization requires more structured and organized means of business operation. Since, the organizational structure follows a hierarchy, the stages of companys development becomes a concern for the particular business organization. For an organization like British Petroleum that operates around the globe following a hierarchical structure helps the management to work independently without the intervention of others in the decision making process. The human resource department is responsible for various business operational activities like recruitment, training and the development of the organization. A change in the organizational structure is bound to affect the role of the management. In this respect, it can be said that the trend of a decentralized structure in an organization has evolved in the recent time (Wilton, 2016). A decentralized structure also helps in bringing out innovative ideas from the various people responsible for the overall organizational activities. The job and responsibility of the HR also get easier because this way they get more support from the people of the organization. References: Messersmith, J. G., Wales, W. J. (2013).
